We Are Here For You!
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.” – II Corinthians 1: 3-4
We understand the death of a loved one is difficult. We are here to support you and provide you resources both now and in the days to come.

The Bereavement Ministry or Post-Funeral Ministry will exist as a resource, to come along side, minister and support the bereaved, months following the funeral or memorial service.

Studies have shown that grieving individuals often hit low ebb at about six weeks following the death of a loved one. Friends and the Church community are prone to being helpful immediately after a death occurs and for a few days or weeks following the service; but then a new sorrow comes to the family and grieving people are too often neglected and forgotten.

Our objective will be to work in concert with other Ministries, but mostly behind the scenes:
  • A “Care Package” containing a few household items, will be given to the primary family/household. An additional “Care Package” will be given to the oldest extended family member/household (sibling, aunt or uncle), that is an active member of Abner Baptist Church.
  • Literature will be given to the bereaved family, to help them understand the common signs and symptoms of grief and recommend healthy ways to cope with grief. This literature will also be available to extended family members and to the “Abner community” who have experienced any type or form of loss. (Upon request)
  • Being present at the viewing and/or funeral.
  • Following up with the bereaved weeks/months later with calls, visits (if desired) and prayer.
  • Monthly scriptural based cards or typed/handwritten meditations, to make it less formal for working through grief towards healing.
