The Estes and Ena Anderson Scholarship Program pays tribute to the late Estes Clarence and Ena Taylor Anderson, who were lifetime members of Abner Baptist Church.   The Anderson family launched the scholarship program in 2015 to encourage and support Abner students who aim to obtain a degree* in higher education.

The scholarship committee provides annual scholarships of $1,000 to eligible applicants who demonstrate financial need, a strong academic record, and a commitment to serving their church and community.  Awards are granted at the scholarship committee’s discretion through a competitive ranking process.

Applicant Eligibility Requirements

  • Abner member (baptism, letter, or experience) in good standing as defined in the church constitution,
  • Graduating high school senior or current student pursuing a degree* at an accredited college, university, or vocational school for the upcoming academic school year,
  • Demonstrate a cumulative 2.5 or above GPA on a 4.0 scale,
  • Demonstrate financial need,
  • U.S. citizen attending school in the U.S.

Application Deadline

The 2024 scholarship application acceptance period is April 15 – May 25.
 

How to Apply

Students can submit their application package securely online.  The application package must include the following documents:

  • Estes and Ena Anderson Scholarship Program 2024 application (complete online)
  • Essay describing your educational and career goals and what receiving this scholarship would mean to you (upload),
  • Current academic transcript (upload),
  • Student Aid Report (SAR)/Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for academic year 2024-25 (upload only the “FAFSA Submission Summary” page that shows the Student Aid Index (SAI)). If your report is not available by May 25, 2024, the committee will accept a late submission if the application is received by the deadline.

Selection Process

Scholarship applications are competitive, and applicants must meet all listed eligibility criteria to be considered.  The Estes and Ena Anderson Scholarship committee will evaluate all applications based on established program guidelines when making their award selections.  The committee will notify applicants of their acceptance status by June 15, 2024.

Additional Information

Upon receiving approval, the scholarship recipient must provide proof of school enrollment to the committee.  The church will send scholarship payments directly to the recipient’s school in early August.

*Degree may be at the vocational, associate, undergraduate level, or graduate level if continuing into graduate school no more than nine months following completion of undergraduate studies.
