Pastor Jaimal C. Hayes – Senior

Reverend Jaimal C. Hayes is a native of Richmond, Virginia. Rev. Hayes is the son of Mrs. Shirley T. Hayes and the late Rev. James W. Hayes, former Pastor of Elam Baptist Church in Charles City, VA.

He received his early education in the Richmond Public Schools system. Upon graduation, he attended the University of Mary Washington receiving a Bachelor of Arts in Economics. He later entered the Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University in response to God’s call to ministry from which he received a Masters Divinity Degree in May 2000.

Rev. Hayes served as an Associate Minister at St. Paul’s Baptist Church from 1997 to 2002. He was licensed to preach in September 1998 and ordained in October 2001. In his commitment to equipping others for the work of ministry, he has held several leadership positions at St. Paul’s Baptist Church. He served as a volunteer Assistant Director of Adult Ministries and Assistant Director of Barnabas Counseling Ministry. He taught ministers in Sermon Preparation and Preaching, as well as, held Bible Study for small groups as a TLC (Tender, Loving, Care) Group Leader. As an Associate Minister, he participated in leading worship services, serving communion, preaching and baptizing.

In April 2002, Rev. Hayes was called to be the pastor of Abner Baptist Church where God has richly blessed him and the Abner Church family with vision, new ministries and new souls added into the Kingdom. Under his leadership, numerous ministries have been launched: Men of God, Women's, Oasis (Seniors), Personnel Committee, Praise Dance, etc. He has also served as a former President of the Henrico Ministers’ Fellowship, former Co-Chair for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Association for Hanover County and as a former Board Member for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Commemoration Association for Henrico County.

In June 2009, he was an Engle Fellow Recipient for the Engle Institute of Preaching at Princeton Theological Seminary. In 2010, Rev. Hayes became a Doctor of Ministry student focusing on Preaching and Leadership in the 21stCentury at the United Theological Seminary in Dayton, OH. He plans to finish his doctoral education in the future.

In April 2012, Pastor Hayes and the former, Ms. Sherita A. White joined together in holy matrimony. From their union, they have one son; Ezra James Hayes.  Reverend Hayes is also the proud father of Anami and Zemirah Hayes.

Rev. Hayes believes that God has anointed and gifted him to nurture people in the Path of Jesus Christ; to make disciples; and to lead them in their calling as God has used him for a noble and high cause to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
